Job Description & Qualifications

Job Summary

Responsible for the execution of omni-channel customer segmentation for all marketing programs, promotions, and collateral. Responsible for optimizing the customer segmentation strategy across vertical and channel and identifying and implementing operational process improvements within the customer segmentation process.


Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Executes the customer segmentation strategy across vertical and channel markets
  • Identifies and implements operational process improvements.
  • Manages omni-channel projects and executes on deliverables.
  • Conducts analyses and measurement of campaigns and programs.
  • Collaborates with internal partners to ensure project and deliverable deadlines are met.
  • May train and mentor new specialists.
  • Completes other projects as assigned.

  • Identifies key barriers/core problems and applies problem solving skills in order to deal creatively with complex situations. Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems. Makes decisions under conditions of uncertainty, sometimes with incomplete information, that produce effective end results.

Work Environment

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about.
  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be eighteen years of age
  • Must pass the Drug Test
  • Must pass the Background Check
  • Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable

Education and Experience 

  • Typically requires BS/BA in related discipline. Generally 5-8 years of experience in related field; certification is required in some areas OR MS/MA and generally 3-5 years of experience in related field. Certification is required in some areas.

Senior Vertical Specialist

The SVS is responsible for the development and effectiveness of the “go-to-market strategy” for the vertical.

  • The SVS develops foundational messaging to guide integrated marketing program development efforts (e.g., content, campaigns, advertising, etc.). This role applies digital and content marketing strategies to support effective sales engagement and merchandising, maximizing results through successful collaboration with cross-functional teams. In addition the SVS will be responsible for :
    • Identifying vertical trends and challenges
    • Understanding customer buying behavior and decision-making criteria
    • Tech trends with both a near-term and longer-term time horizon (driving innovation)
    • Competitive marketing intelligence
  • Collaborate with Product Marketing team and Sales Leadership to understand vertical revenue commitment and product positioning
  • Develop strategies that improve customer experience, drive growth and market positioning and value.
  • Effectively inform and apply vertical marketing to develop integrated marketing plans and sales enablement programs to drive HDS growth in the vertical
  • Provide regular reports and continuously analyze the business impact of vertical marketing initiatives; provide thoughtful data-driven insights which drive the ongoing vertical strategy
  • Gather competitive intelligence about other players in this space
  • Collaborate with internal “product marketing mgrs.” to ensure that the product campaigns are in alignment with suggested road map for the vertical
  • Make recommendations to deliver innovative and creative marketing campaigns to achieve business objectives. Develop a content marketing strategy/ roadmap to gain mind share within the vertical
  • Create, develop and maintain a thought leadership program to position some stake holders- customers, HDS Sr. leadership as thought leaders in the industry. Lead vertical industry-oriented thought leadership activities; including social media, webinars, blogs, partner marketing, podcasts, videos, contributed articles and other press activity. Attend key vertical events.
  • Collaborate with the vertical trade associations to leverage the HDS investments. Uncover earned media opportunities by managing call for papers for events, editorial opportunities in publications etc.
  • Measure, Plan, Manage & Maintain weekly/ monthly post campaign results for the vertical
  • Develop internal and external communication strategies to increase exposure

Other responsibilities:

  • Manage the “vertical- reporting score card” for the vertical and ensure continual program optimization
  • Ensure creative & messaging consistency across marketing channels
  • Monitor industry & marketing trends to improve campaign effectiveness and improve organization’s collective intelligence
  • Provide budget recommendations for programs including ROI
  • Manage weekly/ monthly/ yearly vertical score card reporting and present to extended marketing team & business partners ( Sales leadership and Merchandising)
  • Lead and or participate in cross-functional teams to implement strategies and key initiatives
  • Communicate effectively with executive leadership on vertical strategies, key initiatives, opportunities and needs.
